About Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy
What is Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy?
Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy (OMT) is a treatment that focuses on the muscles of the face, tongue, and throat.
It aims to correct any issues with these muscles that may affect breathing and swallowing.
Who would benefit from Myofunctional Therapy?
People with conditions such as sleep apnea, tongue thrust, mouth breathing day and night, snoring, tethered oral ties, and TMJ discomfort. OMT can also help with habit elimination (thumb sucking).
How does OMT work?
The therapy involves exercises and techniques to strengthen and retrain the muscles of the face, tongue, and throat.
How long does OMT take?
Generally most clients need about 6-12 months of treatment for the best form of success.
For the best outcomes, treatment may need to be combined with orthodontists, osteopaths, chiropractors, and SLPs, among other professions.
